چکیده

To leverage the elastic nature of cloud computing, a solution provider must be able to accurately gauge demand for its offering. For applications that involve swarm-to-cloud interactions, gauging such demand is not straightforward. In this paper, we propose a general framework, analyze a mathematical model, and present a prototype implementation of a canonical swarmto-cloud application, namely peer-assisted content delivery. Our system – called CYCLOPS – dynamically adjusts the off-cloud bandwidth consumed by content servers (which represents the bulk of the provider’s cost) to feed a set of swarming clients, based on a feedback signal that gauges the real-time health of the swarm. Our extensive evaluation of CYCLOPS in a variety of settings – including controlled PlanetLab and live Internet experiments involving thousands of users – show significant reduction in content distribution costs (by as much as two orders of magnitude) when compared to non-feedback-based swarming solutions, with minor impact on content delivery times.

Deadline and Budget Distribution based Cost- Time Optimization Workflow Scheduling Algorithm for Cloud

Cloud computing is a rapidly growing area. Cloud Computing offers utility-oriented IT services to the users worldwide over the internet. As compared to grid computing, the problem of resource management is transformed into resource virtualization and allocations. Effective scheduling is a key concern for the execution of performance driven applications, such as workflows in dynamic and cost-dri...

Estimating fog deposition at a Puerto Rican elfin cloud forest site: comparison of the water budget and eddy covariance methods

The deposition of fog to a wind-exposed 3 m tall Puerto Rican cloud forest at 1010 m elevation was studied using the water budget and eddy covariance methods. Fog deposition was calculated from the water budget as throughfall plus stemflow plus interception loss minus rainfall corrected for wind-induced loss and effect of slope. The eddy covariance method was used to calculate the turbulent liq...

Cloud vertical distribution from combined surface and space radar–lidar observations at two Arctic atmospheric observatories

Detailed and accurate vertical distributions of cloud properties (such as cloud fraction, cloud phase, and cloud water content) and their changes are essential to accurately calculate the surface radiative flux and to depict the mean climate state. Surface and space-based active sensors including radar and lidar are ideal to provide this information because of their superior capability to detec...
